Lilypond morning shadow pack4/11/2023 ![]() Musescore is easy to use and does the job however, it’s open-sources nature leaves holes in terms of professionalism and esteem, as well as playback, something important. Yet it lacks something that I can’t put my finger on that I’m hoping to find with finale. Musescore has served me very well in several of the projects I’ve undertaken. Table of contents Please comment on your experience with MuseScore Users say it is easy to use, but lacks playback functionality/quality and is more of a stepping stone to the big names (that aren’t free). In all, most users agree that it is the best value–a free program that can create great results for beginning, and many experienced, musicians. Table of Contents Section 1: What MuseScore Users Think, and What Their Peers Think About MuseScore Section 2: What Lilypond Users Think, and What Their Peers Think About Lilypond Section 3: What Dorico Users Think, and What Their Peers Think About Dorico What MuseScore Users Think, and What Their Peers Think About MuseScore The result is that while almost all of the comments make sense, some are a little out of context. out of context to the respondent’s prior responses. In order to preserve anonymity, I have left these as-is, i.e. Some respondents referenced their previous responses in these comments, so they may say something that doesn’t seem to directly address the question. Take a look and see for yourself! These are unedited comments. Dorico is thought of as the modern day tool that is rising quickly to the top, for its ease of use and functionality (even though some features are lacking). The reverse is true for Lilypond, but those who use it attest to the ability to create beautiful engravings. Most users agree that MuseScore is great for beginning musicians and for music that isn’t extremely complicated. I think you will find these comments quite interesting some reinforce the ideas of strengths and weaknesses of these programs, and others offer new perspectives. MuseScore, Lilypond, and Dorico User Reviews The comments from respondents who allowed me to publish their feedback are below. When lyrics are not exported, there is no error. As part of the music notation software survey (see post Music Notation Software User Reviews), I collected comments from 16 MuseScore users, 5 Lilypond users, and 5 Dorico users. Far better : Given that these segments are marked, it should be easy to never export their content to Lilypond and to notation editor (except the adapted rulers, of course).Ībout the Lilypond errors I observe : they are related to lyrics. This is only possible if these segments are marked as "special". A button to unselect all these special segments. That drives me to two possible feature requests : That could be tedious if these segments are many. Which needs using the "export selected segments" option. To print a clean document with lilypond is easy : the controllers-only segment have just not to be exported. Garbages in the Lilypond output don't matter provided that these garbages are always the same. Its goal is to show that exporting a given. It should not be a problem for the Lilypond export test : it is a non regression test. ![]() This is a very ingenious and handy way to add expression and other controllers to scores. I totally missed what is new in aveverum.rg. I'll open a new ticket about this problem in the nex days. I presume that everybody is using print-preview, which is very handy. The print-preview menu calls convert-ly before calling lilypond, so it works fine.īut exporting directly to lilypond frequently fails. But it will be correctly processed if convert-ly if called before lilypond. The real problem I was thinking of is elsewhere : if you try to process aveverum.ly with lilypond, it will fail. The baseline should now be fixed in rev 15789. Now if the test is run again, it should pass. Then move this aveverum.ly file in test/lilypond/baseline where it will overwrite the original outdated. To fix it, you only have to run the test, which will fail but leave an aveverum.ly file in the BUILD/test/lilypond directory. The aveverum.rg example file has been changed in rev 15772, but the old aveverum.ly is still in the baseline. rg example files and compare them to reference files stored in the test/lilypond/baseline directory. I don't know exactly what your patch is supposed to do, but the fix is very easy without any patch.
